Stephen Frears, el veterano director de cine, es el protagonista de un ciclo en la Filmoteca Española. El cine Doré proyectará durante todo septiembre gran parte del trabajo de este gran cronista social, crítico con la hipocresía en la cultura occidental, sobre todo con los británicos.

Aunque su paso por Hollywood no ha sido muy brillante, exceptuando el pelotazo que dio con Las amistades peligrosas y poco más, siempre nos quedarán sus retratos costumbristas de la sociedad británica reflejados en títulos como Café Irlandés, La camioneta o Mi hermosa lavandería. Tampoco hay que olvidarse de esa película de culto, basada en una novela aun más aplaudida, protagonizada por John Cusack y para muchos todo un referente generacional: Alta Fidelidad.
